Can you use the words simplify and kids in the same sentence?

How do you juggle kids, dentist appointments, after-school classes, late night feedings, sleep, bills, laundry, cooking, email, phone calls and an occasional date night and keep it SIMPLE? I watch some parents who seem to do it all so effortlessly. I have decided though that in order to simplify, you need to to organize yourself so that things can run more smoothly. This means cutting things out to give yourself and your family more time. It means getting help in areas where you can (hiring a housekeeper or a gardener, carpooling with friends, etc.) What also helps me the most is doing a little bit everyday so that the piles do not become overwhelming.

A friend recently shared a little gem with me called the Power Hour (thanks Cathy!) Because my business is home based, I am always at work. It is so easy for me to work all day and into the night and completely neglect my household tasks. The Power Hour has definitely come to my rescue. The idea is that you split one hour of the day into four 15 minute sections and focus intensely on one task. I've split mine up into

1. laundry
   
2. trash (like shredding mail, etc.
   
3. clutter or anything that is out of place
   
4. I deep clean something - the bathtub, the kitchen counters - whatever.

I've been doing this for about two weeks and it has made a huge difference. To make it fun, instead of using a timer, I've created a few 15 minute Playlists on my iPod. I also use the Power Hour for business tasks as well. If you decide to try this out, I'd love to hear about how you are using it, and if it works for you.
