Amelia Island/Fernandina Beach


Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach are resort communities located just North of Jacksonville on I-95 in Nassau County.

 

Find great shopping at Amelia Island Plantation. Eat, shop, and relax with many dining choices, boutiques, at the famous Spa at Amelia Island Plantation.

 

Kelly Seahorse Ranch is one of only a handful of beach-riding opportunities in the nation. Enjoy the scenery of Amelia's fantastic white sand beaches and the beauty of the ocean by horseback.

 

In May, Fernandina Beach is host to the annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival. Amelia Island hosts the Bausch and Lomb Tennis Championships each April.

 

Of historical interest is up Historic Centre Street and the Silk Stocking District which can be viewed by walking tour given by the Amelia Island Museum of History. Or visit Fort Clinch, one of the most well-preserved 19th century forts in the country.

 


Arlington


Surrounded by the St. John's River on the West and North sides and the Intracoastal Waterway on the East, there is plenty of waterfront property in residential Arlington.

 

Enjoy shopping, family friendly dining and entertainment at Regency Square, Regency Park, and the new St. John's Town Center. There are also several golf communities such as Jacksonville Golf & Country Club, Queens Harbour Yacht and Country Club, and Glen Kernan Golf & Country Club

 

Jacksonville University, University of North Florida, and Jones College are convenient to Arlington.

 

Of historical interest is The Fort Caroline National Memorial, commemorating the first French settlement in this area and the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve, honoring the Timucuan Indians, believed to be the first dwellers along these shores.


Beaches


Jacksonville's Beaches area is comprised of Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, and Jacksonville Beach and is bordered by the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean.

 

There are a number of options for recreation including beach front parks like Kathryn Abby Hanna Park, Huguenot Memorial Park, Pablo Historical Park, and the unique Paws Dog Park.

 

For dining try Sticky Fingers, the Beach Diner, and of course there is the annual Great Atlantic Seafood Festival that takes place every March.

 

For family fun, check out Ollie Koala's Backyard, Adventure Landing, and the Moonlight Movie Series and concerts, both at Seawalk Pavilion.


Clay County / Orange Park


Mandarin


The Mandarin Community Club works hard to preserve the area's rich history. The club's location is in the old 1872 Mandarin School where Harriet Beecher Stowe, famed author of Uncle Tom's Cabin educated both black and white children.

 

The Mandarin Art Festival and Children's Art Festival are put on by the Mandarin community Club.

 

Other points of interest include Mandarin Park, the 1911 Mandarin Post Office and General Store, and Clark's Fish Camp.

 

The Avenue's Mall is considered to be the most "upscale" shopping venure in the area offering shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Southside/Downtown


St. John's County-Fruit Cove/Switzerland; Ponte Vedra/Sawgrass


Fruit Cove / Switzerland are just South of Duval County on the East bank of the St. John's River in St. John's County.


Fruit Cove and Switzerland are primarily residential areas, such as Julington Creek, that benefit from their proximity to the metropolitan area of Jacksonville and St. Augustine. Commercially it has remained relatively undeveloped thanks to the preservation of the historic Bartram Trail. There are a number of parks and golf courses like the Champions Club at Julington Creek within the communities in the area.

 

Ponte Vedra Beach and Sawgrass are located in the northeast corner of St. Johns County, south of Jacksonville Beach along A1A. The community stretches along five miles of the Atlantic Ocean.

 

 

Ponte Vedra's claim to fame is its status as the home of the international headquarters for both the PGA and the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals). Every March Sawgrass hosts the Players Championship and in October the ATP Tour hosts the Pro Tennis Classic, as well as exhibition matches and tournaments throughout the year.

 

 

Neighborhoods such as The Plantation, Sawgrass and Marsh Landing offer the best of living including golf and country clubs such as TPC at Sawgrass Stadium and TPC at Sawgrass Valley Courses as well as the Sawgrass Country Club.

 

 

The seaside resorts such as Ponte Vedra Inn and Club and the Lodge at Ponte Vedra both offer four star service.

 

 

Dining, entertainment, and shopping can all be found at Sawgrass Valley.
